Show, not Tell

There are 3 rules for writing the novel. Unfortunately, no one knows what they are.

This Week’s Research

Starting today, I will be attempting to post once a day, with set topics for each day of the week. If you have any suggestions for what you’d like to see here, contact me.

Sometimes I come across interesting things while I’m snooping around the internet to distract myself researching for our stories. This week we realized that we couldn’t simply call a fighting technique “martial arts” because of the related connotations. For starters: we’re not writing about ninjas.

So, we took to Wikipedia. You’d be surprised how many different kinds of martial arts there are (or at least I was surprised how many there were). We were, however, looking for something from a particular region and the pickings were sparse. I guess the Middle East is more fond of wrestling than hand-to-hand combat. Who knew?

While hunting for something else that may work as a basis for our new amazing fighting technique, we came across this little snippet from Human Weapon.

Awesome, is it not?! Snooping Researching is so much fun.

Have you ever  come across something while researching that totally floored you and even inspired you?
